Bakewell is a beautiful English market town with a church dating from the 9th Century. It hosts a range of shops, a small museum, general and specialist markets. There are a number of charming walks along the idyllic river Wye and surrounding area.
Described as ‘the seaside resort miles from the sea’, Matlock Bath is situated in a beautiful valley of the river Derwent. There’s an aquarium, several museums as well as the local cable cars (The Heights of Abraham) and a small theme park (Gulliver’s Kingdom). Once a year it even has its own illuminations and firework display.
Gulliver’s Kingdom is theme park aimed at younger children (3-13). It has a log floom, roller coasters and carousels as well as on site accommodation.
Chatsworth House is the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and sits within the beautiful Chatsworth Gardens. The house has over 30 rooms open to the public, all of historical interests whilst the gardens offer hours of pleasant walks. Tickets are available for entry to one or both at the www.chatsworth.org
The Heights of Abraham consists of a hilltop park on top of Masson Hill, accessed from the village by the Heights of Abraham cable car. Amongst the attractions in the park, which has been open since Victorian times, are cavern and mine tours. There are also views of the dramatic scenery of the valley of the River Derwent.
